Program Description:
The Master of Science in Biology program is designed particularly
to meet the professional development and graduate degree needs
of in-service teachers. The WKU Biology department is now offering
this degree in a distance (online) and alternative (summer or
winter) format.

Q:
What courses are being offered?
A: Go to www.wku.edu then click "Schedule of Classes" under
the More Links heading. Choose the term you want to look at
and the next page will give you additional parameters, ex.
you should choose Biology (Univ) as the subject. There will
usually be notes on the schedule about short courses. Web courses
will say "Web" for the location.

Graduate Studies Catalog:
The Graduate Catalog states for Non-degree Seeking Students:
Students not seeking a graduate degree must submit an Application
for Admission, application fee, and if not a Western graduate,
submit all transcripts from colleges attended to the Office of
Graduate Studies.
Should the
non-degree seeking student later apply for and be granted admission
into a degree program, no
more than 12 hours taken while in the non-degree category may
be used to fulfill degree requirements. Non-degree seeking
students are not eligible for financial aid. For further
information, The Office
of Distance Learning has answers to many of the other common
questions you may have.

Getting
Started:
The first week of class you need to log into Blackboard. Log-in
will take you to your own Blackboard Homepage. You will see the
titles of the courses for which you are enrolled on the right side
of the page. Click on the title to go to the designated course
site. Check the Announcements page for any recent instructions,
then read the Syllabus [found under Course
Information], Course Documents, and Assignments. Go to Communications,
then Student Roster, to make sure that your e-mail address is correct.
If not, go to Change Your Information under Tools to correct it.
Contact your instructor if you have difficulty accessing the course
site.
Course
Format:
Most of the
courses in this program will be completely online, with
much of the learning and contact being at your own convenience.
However, some courses may require proctored exam(s),
on-campus exam(s), on-campus lab experiences, etc. These
requirements will be spelled out in the online syllabus
for each course in TopNet. Be sure to note when you register
for a course whether or not it requires any proctoring
or in-person sessions. If there is any doubt check with
the instructor.
